Monique’s Story: Finding Confidence

When Monique first became involved with the Indiana Department of Child Services, she was a single mother struggling with substance use, a learning disability, and her son’s behavioral challenges. Monique was introduced to Sky Point through our Family Preservation services. At the time, Monique says she felt overwhelmed and unsure of what would happen next. Despite wanting to do better for her son, her addiction continued to impact her life. Monique knew she needed support to get her life back on track and work toward sobriety.
Through her work with Sky Point, Monique began receiving consistent, hands-on support. She describes the staff as “great people” and says they worked not only with her, but also with her son. “They’ve been great to him, too,” she shared.
Monique especially values the support she received from Jaclynn, who she says always listened and showed up for her when she needed encouragement. During difficult moments, Jaclynn provided positive support and helped Monique navigate communication with DCS, get her SSI benefits reinstated, and secure a new apartment.
Today, Monique says she feels like a different person. She is sober, more patient, and better equipped to manage daily life. She feels more confident in her ability to problem-solve and apply life skills. Most importantly, she says these changes have strengthened her relationships, allowing her to set healthier boundaries and better connect with her son.
Reflecting on her experience, Monique encourages other parents not to give up. “Give it a try — you’ll get more out of it than what you think,” she says. “Before working with Sky Point, I felt very nervous. Now I feel safe and confident.”
Monique says she would recommend Sky Point to other moms who need support or who are involved with DCS, emphasizing how meaningful it was to feel heard, supported, and believed in during a challenging time in her life.
